Welcome to the DDBFS website. DDBFS or the Distributed Database File System is a project to create a Distributed Relational Database File System for the GNU/Linux platform. The architecture will allow for multiple encryption and/or compression layers as well as providing the ability to complete live backups.
The concept for this project has come from a situation where we have over 250000 (yes, 250 thousand) files in a single directory and the current file systems are extremly slow in accessing the file contents. Because of this we are attempting to create a filesystem which will be more efficient in the locating and retrieval of these many files.
We also plan to implement capabilities such as single instance storage, real-time encryption and/or data compression. All these features will merely add to the benefit we expect to retrieve from this design and implementation.
Things started here. Sourceforge has approved the hosting of this project on their infrastructure.
There will be a delay before any more updates are available on the site whilst we design and document our implementation, but please feel assured that we are working on this project and will update you all when appropriate.
